Sorry everyone

Sorry for the lack of posts as of late. My flu was getting worse so I went to go see the doctor and I have an Upper Respiratory Infection. It is painful to cough and I haven't really done much else but sleep and eat in an effort to escape pain.

Thanks for being so loyal and continuing to read my blog even with the lack of posts.

I'll post when I'm feeling a bit better.

Styles of the Gothic Subculture:Victorian Goth

There are Victorian era influences all over the Gothic subculture. from Lace gloves, bustle skirts and Parasols to Top hats. Yet no one can quite pull off the elegance quite like a Victorian goth

Source

The Victorian era has had a strong influence on the Gothic subculture. Authors and poets such as Mary Shelley and Edgar Allen Poe line the shelves of many gothling homes. they also enjoy Tea parties and masquerade balls.Clothing tends to be historically accurate and lends itself well to other parts of the subculture.  Gothic Lolita, Neo-Victorian, and Steampunk are some examples of that. However the difference between those styles and Victorian Goth is indeed in it's historical accuracy.Corsets are worn under clothing. However some most Victorian Gothic ladies may wear top hats and sport canes or monocles, all of which are traditional worn by males of the Victorian era. Ladies clothing is generally made of heavy, layered clothing including bloomers, stockings, steel boned corsets, skirt, bustle, petticoat, blouse, veil, and parasol. Men typically wear frocks, ruffled shirts and waist coats. Although not everyone can walk around in those clothes can be hot and heavy so they do wear toned down versions. (bloomers are very comfy, I usually wear them around the house)

Footwear is often less clunky and more granny or "witchy" boots are seen.

Makeup is usually elegant yet dark. Hair is usually in elegant up-do's and men may have sideburns and or a mustache  although it's not often seen. Jewelry is often elegant chokers made of lace, cameos are often seen although they can be non-traditional motifs or skeleton girls, bats or other spooky images. Lockets are also seen.

Some Victorian goths try to emulate customs and manners of the Victorian era such as kissing of a ladies hand as a greeting or writing on stationary to send letters.
Music typically listened to is often classical music, Some Emilie Autumn, Rasputina, Lacrimosa and various other bands along with traditional Gothic music.
hope you've enjoyed it.

Outfit post

So because of the weather changes in Florida, my sinuses are killing me and I feel crummy. But I still got up and went running around running errands and such.

I finally got to wear my Tutu! and I also did something new with my makeup.

I used my purple eye-liner to make a nice dark effect on my eyelid.

I promise to write something practical tomorrow!

Gothic Accessories

As promised, here are some Gothic accessories I think every first time goth should have. This is supposed to be a guideline of sorts and by no means does it mean you can't wear what you want. these are just some things to get your style started.

Silver jewelry: Silver is a popular color due to it being considered more of a cooler color than gold. symbols popular among the subculture are Bats( my Personal favorite) skulls, cameos, coffins, crosses and pentagrams.

Arm-warmer and Gloves: not all goths like arm warmers, they tend to be worn by baby bats. but as an avid wearer of them, I firmly believe that if worn properly they can add texture to an outfit.

Bags and purses: if your of the female gender, it helps to have a place to put your black eyeliner and gloves in. a typical black one is practical. they tend to be easy enough to personalize. if you want to spend a little extra, you can go on the inter-webs and find some nice ones already decorated for you.

Etsy
Belts: never underestimate a nice belt. use them to keep your pants up or to add shape to a dress and draw attention to a waistline.

Goggle or and eye-patch: both have become quite popular as of late in the subculture. an eye-patch can look great with a Victorian inspired outfit. goggles tend to look great with casual attire to add a little extra.

I plan on doing an accessories post for different sub genres of goth as well. so stay tuned.

Basics of a Goth Wardrobe

Now this is more of a post for baby bats that cannot afford the expensive goth labels and do not have the skills to do any of the major DIY-ing. these are really just a basic items I found to be cheap enough to find around thrift stores or the mall.

Plain long sleeved shirts: Have at least one black one, try for jewel tones such as dark red, purple and even some blues. these are relatively easy to DIY with safety pins and ribbons. use your imagination

Basic Black Jeans or pants: Have at least one pair of jeans of any style and at least one pair of cloth pants for special occasions. the jeans can be black or maybe jewel toned. Pants should be black.

Blouses: try to have blouses of black or jewel tones. some white blouses can actually add some vintage charm to a otherwise all black outfit.

Black Skirts: Having many black skirts of various lengths. this will add versatility to your wardrobe.

Black Boots: any length or style is fine, whatever is comfortable. here are some examples:

A coat: I have one hoodie for sick days and a short black trench coat. Most blazers are good as well. Military jackets can also add a little "oomf" to a wardrobe. dark colors such as black and jewel tones are perfect colors.

A interesting black shirt: band shirts are common but any shirt with a cool design is good.

I love superman, sorry

Tights of many colors: any interesting tights such as fishnet, lace or opaque tights can also make an outfit. make sure you also have tights for when it's cold out as well.

Hope this has helped some people. I will be doing another post soon regarding accessories.

Styles of the Gothic subculture: Ethereal Goth

Yay! I consider myself an Ethereal goth so this article is exciting for me.

Ethereal goths are often quiet and introverted. They would rather be at home enjoying a spot of earl grey and reading the works of their favorite author or poet than hopping around to music at a club.

Ethereal Goths tend to be a softer, more elegant version of goth. they also are more toned down, so this makes a good first time look for young Gothlings that are first getting into the scene. This is also a nice style to wear around parents whom have a problem with most goth styles

Fashion usually consists of jewel tones and occasional lighter colors like pink and baby blue, long skirts and other flowy articles. accessories can usually be lace gloves, cameos and chokers. they occasionally wear corsets and medieval, romantic or Victorian inspired outfits.

Stripy Tights and Dark Delights
Makeup is usually light colors such as lilac or blue, with maybe some black eyeliner with cool designs. they may sometimes wear lipstick or lip gloss that matches or goes with the eye shadow they wear.

I went to the ZOO!

So yesterday my wonderful boyfriend, Knowing how much I love animals., Took me to the Zoo!

I had so much fun and I have some pictures for Y'all!

The First exhibit we went to was the Free Flying Aviary, I love birds so I brought my sketch book so I could  sketch a few of them. that's the Kookaburra, after that I was singing the Kookaburra song all day.

Kookaburra

CRESTED OROPENDOLA

Nene Goose

Bald Ibis

RED LEGGED SERIEMA
These are just a few of the birds I thought were really cool, there were so many more!
There was a tall tower that let you look down on the birds watering hole. Look at them all. I later found out that the aviary is also a place were they house the injured non-predatory birds that can no longer return to the wild. I like how much time and effort they put into making the landscape as close to natural habitat as they can.

Eagles
We also saw some eagles in the predatory bird exhibit. This poor eagle was shot and can no longer fly. when she was found, the Lowry park Zoo brought her in to rehabilitate her. isn't she a beautiful creature.

African Crowned Crane

Golden eagle
We also went to a Birds of Prey show, The Golden Eagle was by far the most impressive bird we saw.

Diamond Back Rattlesnake

My favorite reptile! the turtle!

Next we went to go see the manatees and on the way we saw the snakes and reptiles. there was also some fish and amphibians. I love all reptiles, my favorite being Turtles,  so this was particularly fun for me. Good thing Andrew loves them as much as I do.

Queen of the Kimodo
On our way through the Asian gardens, we found the Kimodo Dragon, Andrew's personal favorite reptile. so we found a perfect photo opportunity with the statue of the dragon. (the zoologists wouldn't let us take pictures of the dragon.)

Andrew and I decided to take a break and we sat down at a local bench. The Zoo does a Halloween thing every year called Zoo Boo. some of the decorations were up. you can see the spider web up in the far right corner of the top picture.

Before we hit the African exhibits we stopped by the Bats! these guys are called a fox faced bat. we got there just as they were starting to wake up. I loved them, they were so cute when they yawned.

After seeing the last African exhibit. the Zebras. we decided to leave. I had so much fun!
