Skin paling techniques.

Most of the people I've met so far in the subculture love to keep their skin pale.

It tends to be a personal aesthetic that by no mean has to be done in order to fully enjoy the subculture.

However if you are trying to pale your skin. here are some helpful tips I've learned both through research and trial and error.

________________________________________________________________

Exfoliate:

Exfoliating your skin can help with becoming pale. by scrubbing away dead skin cells, you not only get soft skin but let a new layer of skin grown in, which will naturally be a little paler than the previous layer you scrub away.

I only recommend exfoliating  3 times a week maximum. exfoliating can also dry out your skin if done too often.

you can use regular soap and add sugar or sand to it but these are some products I choose to purchase that work really well.

Softsoap Coconut scrub
Freeman's Pink grapefruit facial scrub

both work really well but I advise using moisturizer afterwards for both to avoid drying out skin.

Lemon Juice baths:

Mix two cups of Lemon juice in with your bath and soak for a while. it will help lighten skin over time.

I honestly just use Great Value brand from walmart. it's cheap and does the job.

Sunscreen:

Use Sunscreen daily to keep your skin protected from the harmful yellow hurty-thing we know as the sun.

I have several sunscreens in my possession. I live in Florida so I find a little extra protection to be necessary.

I have a 90 SPF for outings that require me to be in constant sun exposure for hours. I have a 50 for day to day use for errands and several tubes of SPF 30 that are small enough to fit in my purse in case I forget and aren't planning on being outside for more than 5-15 minutes.

I prefer the Banana boat brand. I use sport performance because it is non-greasy and dries
quickly. it will also protect from UVA/UVB rays.

These are the ones I use but feel free to experiment.

I also suggest wearing sunscreen indoors at first if it has a lot of natural light exposure from windows and such.

Health care:

When you have pale skin and wish to maintain it. you do have to do a few things to take care of your body when doing so.

Vitamin D: Take Vitamin D supplements. The Sun gives us Vitamin D and when you choose to try and pale your skin, you can develop a deficiency of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is absolutely necessary for the growth and development of bones. Since it is required for the proper absorption and utilization of calcium and phosphorus in the body.

Take 1,000 IU of vitamin D (in the cholecalciferol form) daily from a dietary supplement to make certain you are getting enough vitamin D for optimal health.

Thoughts on the shooting in conneticut

I cried for hours when I heard of the shootings.

For those of you have not heard of this tragedy here is what I know.

Dressed in black fatigues and a military vest, an armed man walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut Friday and opened fire, shattering the quiet of this southern New England town and leaving the nation reeling at the number of young lives lost.

26 people are now dead  -- 20 of them children. Among the six adults killed were Dawn Hochsprung, the school's beloved principal, and school psychologist Mary Sherlach.
The shooter, identified by three law enforcement officials as 20-year-old Adam Lanza, also was killed, apparently by his own hand. Separately, his mother's body was found at a Newtown residence.

I can only sit here and wonder. How is someone capable of such an act? How can another human being take the life of another? a child no less.

Children were killed. ages 5-10.

My little brother is 10 and All I want to do is call him and tell him I love him.

I cried last night. I cried for the parents who will spend Christmas without hearing the voice of their little girl or boys saying Santa has come.

I cried for all the Children who lived, but have had their innocence torn from their souls.

I cried for the teachers, the principal and the Psychologist who's own families would never again here them speak or laugh.

This tragedy has shaken my country to it's very core. and all I want to do is sit here and cry.

Hug the ones you love. hold them close and be grateful you have them by you tonight.

Bats and Kisses and lots of love,

Lady Zendra

Shopping day haul

so yesterday I went Christmas shopping and picked up a few things for the holidays. Since sales are abundant this time of year. So I have done quite a bit of gift shopping as well as picked up a few little things for myself.

so with that we dive in.

Calamari, YAY!
So When we went to the mall, I managed to drag him into the Forever 21.

So I got a pretty lace dress for Christmas. It's a nice dark red.

I also got a studded headband that I haven't stopped wearing since I got it!

I also picked up some new nail polish and clear coat.

I have also been dying to try out liquid eyeshadow. it surpassed my expectations. the brand is called Hard Candy and I found it at wal-mart.

And Andrew took me to Build-A-Bear and bought me this bear. his name is Kamba. I absolutely love his hoodie! He is the Champ bear so one dollar from our purchase was given to an organization for sick children. ^_^

Isn't he cute!

And he fits in with all my animals! You can see my turtle, Raphael, my skeleton, Voltaire, My Teddy Scares named Emo bear, my Panda, My otter named Ollie, My witch bear named Yensid, My Chinese panda, Teng Shen, Kermit, Kamba and Pinkie Pie!

And this is my big box of gifts, I'm hiding them in my closet to avoid prying eyes.

This was my outfit for that day.

Fluttershy shirt: hot topic 25$
Lace Shirt: Madam Butterfly 10$
Cameo: Friend trade

Makeup for the day as well. :) and I apologize for a few makeup-less me pictures.

Styles of the Gothic Subculture: SlutGoth/Femme Fatale

Now Femme Fatale goth is a feminine sort of style. It is similar to Fetish Goth in many ways, with a love close fitting clothing. The name is given due to the rather...Skimpy garb these types of goths are seen wearing.

One of the of the differences between femme fatale and fetish Goth is the choice of fabrics; a slut goth is more likely to wear a ripped or frayed  miniskirt with a low-cut cotton bustier than something in PVC corsets or tops. Most Slut goths tend to leave the PVC to footwear if they do decide to wear it.

Most clothing is ripped, short and revealing as most of these goths try to appear sexy. They wear their hair long and messy (Sex-hair if you will)Popular accessories include PVC heels, fishnets (possibly shredded), studded or chain belts and band hoodies. Animal prints are common as are tight-fitting band tees, and tight ripped jeans with teeny-tiny tank tops
Stripy Tights and Dark delights
Makeup is usually a smoky eye with red or maroon Lipstick. sometimes fancy eyeliner is seen but it varies from person to person.

Although this tends to a female type of dress, men get in on it too. Guys might wear tight leather pants, mesh shirts, T-shirts with provocative slogans, and  ripped skinny jeans which give off a slightly trashy vibe.

Vampire Freaks
Femme fatale's tend to be interested in rock and metal as well as the heavier side of Goth.  Goth and Industrial bands  include Combichrist, Bella Morte, Deathcamp Project, Devilish Presley, Fields of the Nephilim, Gothminister, KMFDM, and Goth/Industrial/metal hybrid bands like Lahannya and I:Scintilla. Outside of the Goth music, bands like Alice Cooper, Disturbed, Marilyn Manson, Spit Like This, Rob Zombie, Al.B.Damned, Bullet For My Valentine, Deathstars, Aiden and Avenged Sevenfold are often enjoyed.

However, I do have some plans to do more styles of Goth today and hopefully do some Videos for YouTube. I can't wait to get it up and hopefully I won't disappoint all of my faithful followers.

Hot Topic: Why do Goths hate it?

Most of the time, Hot topic is associated with Mall goths or Babybats. It is the mecha for the uneducated Gothling. However sometimes when wandering in, I do find things I wish to add to my own wardrobe.

So why do Goths hate it?

I believe that because Hot Topic has seemed to 'Sell out" over the years, it makes it less appealing. it went from a haven for the alternative to Hipster headquarters.

I still visit the store from time to time but although i don't like hot topic's choice in music or trend-whoring ways. I understand how little business an all alternative store can get.

it's all just business, I'm sure.

What do you, My dear readers, Think?

Still alive.

Sorry for the lack of posts as of late. I've become terribly addicted to the online dating sim game, My Candy Love. So forgive me.

But thanks for still being loyal to my blog.

As of late I have had a lack of inspiration when it comes to topics. so if you have any requests feel free to comment them.

hopefully I will get out of my funk soon.

Thanks for your loyalty.

Bats and Kisses,

Lady Zendra.

Blame these two for my current obsession with the damn game. The one on the left is named Castiel and the other Lysander. both make me want to lick the screen on good days and chuck it through the window on the bad. >-< why must they be so gorgeous. they do not make them like that in real life.

(Love you Andrew! :) )  just in case the boyfriend unit is reading.

Styles of the GothicSubculture: Romantic Goth

Romantic goths are a subset of goth that usually leans toward the more emotional parts of goth. These goths tend to be intellectual and view darkness and beauty as one in the same.

These beautiful goths tend to enjoy spending time reading poetry, literature and many books on any of the subjects they find interesting. They are, in fact, Known for their love of dark poetry, literature and may often be seen picnicking in the cemetery with a battered Anne Rice novel in  hand.

Romantic Goths love extravagant, decadent clothes reminiscent of aristocrats from a long ago. Their garments are often made from beautiful fabrics such as velvet, silk, or lace. The overall appearance tends to be poised and elegant. They tend to lean toward Victorian style clothing but unlike Victorian Goths, Romantic goths are not always historically accurate

Strongly influenced by England's Romantic Period (18th and 19th century), which is reflected in the poetry of John Keats, Lord Byron, Mary Shelley and Percy Bysshe Shelley. The Romantic Movement focused on the emotive experience, which is what Romantic goths tend to like about the subculture.

Romantic goths thrive in dark beauty and have a very high maintenance look, with cravats, bustles, corsets, boots, dark yet sensual makeup these goths have an eye for the  dramatic.accessories such as parasols, top hats, canes and lace eye-patches are often seen to complete a outfit. Elaborate beaded or lace chokers are often seen, and lace gloves are regarded as almost essential. This look can sometimes be paired with heavier looking boots for an ironic contrast, but Victorian granny boots, or lacy, ribbon adorned heeled boots from brands such as Demonia complete a romantic outfi.

Romantic goth bands have an almost ethereal and brooding sound, for example Love Spirals Downwards, Faith and the Muse, The Sisters of Mercy and Love is Colder Than Death. Classical music such as Bach and Beethoven are also enjoyed.

Band of the Month: The Cure

I've decided to do a monthly spotlight on various bands well known throughout the  subculture. This is because I've noticed a lot of readers that email me are Young Darklings just entering the subculture and wanting to find some music.

The first band I plan on Spotlighting is one of my personal favorites: The Cure.

__________________________________________________________________

The Cure was formed in 1973, but at the time the band was known as The Obelisk. At the Time the band members consisted of Robert Smith on lead vocals and piano, Michael "Mick" Dempsey on guitar, Laurence "Lol" Tolhurst on drums, Marc Ceccagno on lead guitar and Alan Hill on bass.

As the years progressed the band went through several lineup changes with the only constant member being Robert Smith. The band also went through several name changes from the Obelisk to Easy Cure

Easy Cure auditioned several vocalists before Smith finally assumed the role of Easy Cure's front-man in September 1977.  That same year, Easy Cure won a talent competition to work and record with Hansa Records but the contract later dissolved as some members left the band. Thompson was dropped from the band in May, and the remaining trio (Smith/Tolhurst/Dempsey) were soon renamed The Cure by Smith.

Despite hardships, The Cure realesed its first Album "The Imaginary Boys"  in May 1979. Because of the band's inexperience in the studio, Parry and engineer Mike Hedges took control of the recording. However, most of the band members were unhappy with their debut album; particularly Smith who felt it was a bit too superficial. The band later released their second single "Boys Don't Cry" in June

The Cure them became the front -runner for Siouxie and the Banshees but being part of the Banshees really changed Smith's outlook on what he wanted to do with his music career.

The Cure's third single "Jumping Someone Else's Train" was released in early October 1979. Soon afterwards, Dempsey was dropped from the band because of his cold reception to material Smith had written for the upcoming album.

After the lack of creative control on the first album, Smith exerted a greater influence on the recording of The Cure's second album "Seventeen Seconds", which he co-produced with Mike Hedge. The album was released in 1980 and reached number 20 on the UK charts. A single from the album, "A Forest", became the band's first UK hit single, reaching number 31 on the singles chart. To improve sales of the album after re-releasing "Three Imaginary Boys" to America, the band went on it's first world tour. At the Conclusion of the tour however, Matthieu Hartley left the band. Hartley said, "I realized that the group was heading towards suicidal, sombre music—the sort of thing that didn't interest me at all."

The Cure recorded and released "Pornography", the third and final album of an "oppressively dispirited" trio that cemented the Cure's stature as purveyors of the emerging gothic rock genre in 1982. The release of Pornography was followed by the Fourteen Explicit Moments tour, where the band finally dropped the anti-image angle and first adopted their signature look of big, towering hair and smeared lipstick on their faces.

The tour also saw a series of small incidents that eventually led Simon Gallup to leave The Cure at the tour's conclusion. Gallup and Smith did not talk to each other for eighteen months following his departure.

With only one album left in their record contract and with commercial response to "Wild Mood Swings" and the "Galore" compilation lacking in enthusiasm, Smith once again considered that the end of The Cure might be drawing near and wanted to make an album that reflected the more serious side of the band. The Grammy-nominated album "Bloodflowers" was released in 2000 after being delayed since 1998.

The band also embarked on the nine-month Dream Tour, attended by over one million people worldwide. In 2001, The Cure left Fiction and released their "Greatest Hits" album and DVD, which featured the music videos for a number of classic Cure songs.

Tthe band headlined twelve major summer music festivals in 2002, and played three extended concerts in Berlin and Brussels in which they performed the albums "Pornography", "Disintegration" and "Bloodflowers" in their respective order each night. The Berlin performances were released on DVD as "The Cure: Trilogy" in 2003.

In 2011, the band played their first three studio albums in their entirety during two shows in Sydney, Australia. These "Reflections" shows notably featured Roger O'Donnell and Laurence Tolhurst, both in a keyboard and percussion role. Porl Thompson was absent from the performances. The shows are due to be released on DVD in 2012.

March 2012, The Cure announced that they would be headlining a series of summer music festivals across Europe, including the Leeds/Reading Festival. Smith said that the band were currently without a recording contract and that he had no idea when they would put together another record or release new singles

Pumpkin Patch Picspam!

Look at the glorious alliteration in that title! on a happier note than my last post,

I went to the pumpkin patch to get pumpkins and celebrate a Fall Festival!

It was very fun and I took lots of pictures!

Pumpkins first!

Look at the little Bee! So cute!

We also saw a petting zoo. Being an avid animal lover I just had to check them out.

My favorite was the tortoise! he was so large and funny when kids went to pet him, he just munched on grass, completely oblivious.

There was also sheep and goats but they didn't want any face shots and I felt my followers would not want Sheep butt in their face.

And I hope you enjoyed my picspam, Another is soon to follow!

Lady Zendra
