Dating Non-goths

Even though I was a late bloomer to the subculture (I didn't get into it until I was about 17) I get asked very often by other goths "How do you date guys/girls not into the subculture?" believe it or not a few  of my non-goth friends ask this as well.

I have never dated within the subculture. I had a boyfriend during my starting years (I still consider myself a bit of a baby bat) but that lasted about 3 months. the boyfriend after that was 1 month long.

However, I was in a relationship for over a year. This guy was a non-goth but I made it work. Until he started to try and change my opinions on everything. He was selfish and overly opinionated, believing his opinions were always right. I tend to be a laid back person but when things I liked became "stupid." or "But that's so stereotypically Gothic, can't you form your own identity." is when I had enough.

I am in another budding relationship now, with a psychology major I met at my college. He is sweet and kind, as well as so laid back he doesn't care what I wear or like. He respects me and I respect him.

7that's the keyword "RESPECT" a relationship is give and take. The one your with needs to except your quirks and love of anything. I firmly believe that if your significant other hates what you like he cannot truly love you.

I found a good guy who (seemingly) excepts all my quirks. all you need is to find that one person who can look at what you wear and say "You look nice" even when most of the world would want to hang you for it.

Love,

Lady Zendra.

  1. I completely agree. I was in a relationship for nearly three years. Although It didn't work out for various reasons, my boyfriend respected my interests and never wanted to change me. I could go out in the most flamboyant clothing, and he would always say I looked good. That's something that I don't think I'll find in anyone ever again, or at least for a long time.
