On Helping Others Deal With Death

It was a relatively quiet day yesterday, Until Andrew's mother got that call. Her best friend since high school had died for unknown reasons.

Now Leslie, Her friend, had been suffering from lung cancer for years now. she was in pain and is no longer in pain. I met her once, she was nice and so full of life despite it all. But she has left behind a hole that neither her son, husband or friends know how to fill.

What can you do when the others are suffering? When you don't know what to say or what to do, how can you help them with their own grief.

Leslie was like my boyfriend's aunt, he called her Aunt Leslie and she was a major part of his life. she was at every major event, every Christmas and holiday. I can only imagine the pain his mother was feeling, losing her best friend of 35 years.

The best thing to do is to be there, not constantly asking if they are okay. of course they aren't but quietly give them a shoulder to cry on.

when they stop crying, stay near. they may want to talk or cry again but be there. sometimes just keeping them company is the best thing to do.

Usually in the weeks that follow, people will gather and bring warm food and comfort. you should do the same. be helpful and bring them things they need or offer to go shopping with them.

be as supportive as possible and remember, time heals all wounds.

My thoughts on Hipster Goths

There has been quite a bit of hype about Hipster Goths. some people like them, others hate their guts. I've decided to post a blog with my opinion on the matter.

As far as I can understand, this is the latest trend among hipsters. They've thrown out their suspenders, large fake glasses, neon colors and tight skinny jeans.

I really have no problem with Hipster goths at all. (dodges rock thrown at head)

I never really hated hipsters, I've actually met some that are really nice. My philosophy is " judge from within"    I really don't approve of people who don't like someone just because they choose to dress in a way that just happens to be popular way to dress.

I'm not saying that it  isn't annoying when people claim to be goth when they clearly don't know anything about it, However Hipster goths will not be the downfall of goth.

I mean, I usually go for a more casual dress, which  is what the style of hipster goth usually entails. I find that when one has a lack of funds, more casual style has to be done.

Common clothing choices for Hipster goths are as follows:

Boys:

  • Skinny jeans in black, gray or white
  • military boots, creepers or sometimes converse
  • black shirts with upside down crosses and other things
  • plaid or black shorts
  • silver necklaces with razor blades or knives
  • studded bracelets
Girls:
  • black skirts of any length, usually short though
  • studded bracelets
  • black shirts
  • black skinny jeans
  • band shirts
  • pastel hair color
  • black dresses
  • chains
  • upside down crosses

I really don't see a problem with hipster goths, lets just live and let live

Goths of all people should know what it's like to be treated poorly just because you have different clothing tastes.

Manga Review: Bizenghast

The Manga I wish to review today is Bizenghast by M. Alice LeGrow. I found it at a library recently and I decided to give it a try.

Bizenghast is the tale of a young girl, Dinah Wherever. Dinah has the ability to see ghosts and spirits. However, her aunt Jane Addison and her doctor believe that Dinah suffers from Schizophrenia. No one believes Dinah except her closest and only friend Vincent Monroe.

One day, after sneaking out, Vincent and Dinah visit an old cemetery and enter a tomb. inside they discover they have stumbled upon a Mausoleum  after Dinah reads aloud from a plaque, she discovers that her name is written on a contract which binds her to return to the mausoleum every night to free various ghosts. If she succeeds, she will win her freedom and a reward. If she fails, she will die and stay in the mausoleum as a corpse.

Overall, I thought the story was interesting and the art was amazing. I love the style of art of this manga and I cannot wait to read the next one.
I definitely give this one a rating of:

Developing your own style

sorry about not updating lately. I've been very busy with work and getting ready for the next semester to start.

With all the different styles of the Gothic subculture, sometimes it can be hard to figure out how to express your own sense of style. Most people in the subculture do not want to "copy" others. most of us want to feel as if we can put our own spin on our clothing. I'm still trying to perfect my own style but I have a few guidelines for those developing a style of their own

Guideline #1: If you like it, Wear it
You can't be an individual by limiting what you were because it isn't black or "goth" enough. Do your own thing and have fun with it.  Have a nice worn pair of jeans that still fit. wear them with a nice Bauhaus shirt or pretty black lace top. I even dyed a pair of my old jeans before they got to be to small for my hips.

Guideline #2: Who cares what they think
Care less about what others say and more on how good you feel about the way you dress. I think you truly discover who you are when you stop letting what others think bother you

Guideline #3: A time and place
I usually am pretty good at judging when to wear what. I have certain clothes and outfits for job interviews, family outings. Knowing when to wear a certain outfit can help you get on better with others without giving up your gothiness.

Guideline #4: Thrifting
Thrift stores usually have cheap things to buy. You can find so much for a great price that will look good. you can also find some nice items for DIY projects. I love to DIY but I find it hard to sew by hand. I'm hoping to get a sewing machine soon to make it easier to do the projects I want to do.

Guideline #5: experiment with make-up at home first
Make sure you try to experiment at home with your makeup. Get it perfect then wear it outside.

I hope I've given some good advice. feel free to leave a comment with any questions you have or problems you need help with.

Pictures from work

So after stealing my boyfriend's phone, I managed to get a few pictures of some o my favorite things in the boutique where I work.

The makeup I wore and my favorite Cameo choker. I was actually wearing my cameo bracelet and cameo ring with the same design.

The dress I was wearing. I Actually bought this at Madam Butterfly. I like the White and black stripes, isn't it so pretty?  you can see my Brony button because I was hoping to meet some fellow Brony's on the job. No such luck.

More Cameo stuff. I have a collection of Cameos so I might get these after I get my paycheck. There is also a Purple pair and a grey pair.

I actually bought this today, it was so pretty that I couldn't resist. :) I plan on wearing it to the movies tomorrow.

I normally do not like Ed Hardy designs but I really wish I could get this purse. I love it to pieces.

I just thought this was so pretty, it's a black rhinestone bracelet with a floral designs. I squealed when I first saw it. My work will make more money from me working there. XD

This is actually part of my collection but I bought it at the store when I first discovered it.

This is a bracelet that matches the purple collection of cameo's. I really like how the purple goes with the white of the image.

I really like my new job and I plan on showing some pictures of my outfit tomorrow. I'll try and post more often but I hope you enjoy.
