Baby bat hate?

I was pursuing YouTube comments. and for some reason I came across a lot of young Gothlings having hateful comments thrown at them. while I do realize that some Gothlings are simply not doing research this does not give us a right to hate them. as older goths who have clearly studied the sub culture for some amount of time and have had time to develop, shouldn't we be taking them under our wings instead of sneering at them?

I remember when I was first starting in the subculture. I was curious, liked the style and began to explore. I was particularly interested in one girl my age. her name was Amanda and I noticed  how she did not dress like the other "goths" at school. She never wore ripped jeans or Tripp brand pants. she was most often seen in all black outfits, wearing either boots or heels. she wore skirts and nice shirts, Victorian in style with a modern twist.

This fascinated me and I started to talk to her. we became friends and she taught all about what she knew about the subculture. She introduced me to bands such as Bauhaus and the Cure. she took me under her wing instead of assuming I was just some other random poser.

Color me Goth

The reason for so much hate from older goths is that because they do not know as much about the subculture. they tend to know nothing of the music that started the subculture or of proper fashion.  Many of them listen to heavy metal bands such as Marilyn Manson or Slipknot. Young Gothlings tend to wear lots of heavy makeup and go for more of a scary look rather than a beautiful dark look.

Many older goths fail to realize that this behavior is wrong and no one should treat anyone badly simply because they are "gother" than everyone else.

Sick day

So I am laid up in bed because of an upset stomach.

I started to drink a naturally slimming tea in an effort to lose some weight. It was only .70 cents so I figured I give it a try.

NEVER again will I drink slimming tea.

Apparently it contains an herb called Casa Sangrada, the 2nd strongest laxative known. I've been drinking this for about a week. silly me

so after several days of upset stomach, today I upchucked and my boyfriend went into care mode. so I'm sitting here with plain toast and apple sauce.

Hopefully I'll be better by tomorrow. expect many blogs today seeing as I hate being laid up in bed.

this is the horrible tea that did this to me. it actually tasted pretty good but Andrew threw both boxes away so this wouldn't happen again.

Styles Of the Gothic subculture: Traditional Goth

A Traditional or Trad goth is usually a style that is directly descended from the first goths. Characterized by Back-combed hair and punk-esque clothing.

The style usually involves leather jackets, piercings, extremely dark makeup, fishnets and occasionally
 bondage gear. they often accessorize with ankhs and gloves.

Trad goths listen to the bands who grace the Batcave (the Velvet Underground e.g.) Bauhaus, Siouxie and the Banshee's, The Birthday Party, and Sisters of Mercy. however most trad goths feel that the "real" goth scene is dead and don't always like the newer generations. this doesn't apply to all traditional goths but I've met a few.


Makeup consists of heavy black eyeliner, black lipstick and sometimes some black eye shadow. This is not required but is often seen.

Basic care for a Venus Flytrap.

I really haven't brought up my Venus flytrap, Audrey II. I've only had him for a few months so he is still a baby.  

Today I figured I'd give a small intro to Flytraps and some basic care tips. so with that lets dive in.

Basic Care

1. When you first purchase a Flytrap you'll notice it's potted in Peat Moss and not normal soil. In the wild, Flytraps are grown naturally in poor, humid conditions. so NEVER use regular soil or fertilizer. You can simply use Peat moss or a mixture of either Perlite soil or silica sand to provide more aeration. 

    2.  Watering your flytrap is also important. If you live in a dry climate, you can keep your flytrap outside but keep it in something that will keep it humid. such as a glass fishbowl. keep the peat moss moist and make sure it's never dry.

   3. Make sure your plant has access to bugs it can eat or feed it yourself. give it a small fly and try to keep it  relativity tiny depending on the size of the plant.

Goths in cartoons that I love

I have tons of  cartoon characters I love. But I didn't realize how many of those characters were considered Gothic until recently so I figured I'd pay tribute to my earliest influences.


Lydia Deetz

Lydia Deetz was one of my favorite cartoon character growing up. She was always so captivating to little me, she was into all the things I found cool. so she is the earliest example of goth I was ever exposed to.


 Cassandra

Cassandra was a character in the cartoon series Hercules. she has the ability to see into the future, unfortunately she only sees the bad things and no one ever believes her. because of this, she lashes out and shuns others except for her two friends, Hercules and Icarus. i could relate to not being understood by my peers.



Ingrid Third

Ingrid Third from the show Filmore. I found her to be a very cool character because of her photographic memory and love of reading. she was an anime fan and extremely smart, placing at first in her class.


Creepie

Creepie was by far the coolest girl from my childhood. she was raised by bugs and dated a boy raised by a giant spider. she was cool, aloof but not gloomy. she just had macabre interests, particularly in Entomology, the study of insects.


Sam Manson

Sam was opinionated, despite her overly controlling parents she still did what she wanted. she more used the goth label to rebel but she was sure of her tastes and herself. something all girls should be able to do.


             Rogue

In the show X-men Evolution, all the superhero mutants are in high school. Rogue has the ability to drain other memories, skill and powers with just skin to skin contact. meaning relationships are hard for her and so is getting close to other people. although more emo than goth at times, I found Rogue to be an inspiration for life because she made good friends despite being aloof.

Raven

Last but not least we have (cue drum roll) Raven from Teen Titans. She is by far the best and most recent example of my influences. I found an interest in the occult after watching Raven on screen. she was forced to hide emotions in order to keep her demon father from taking over her body so she is often reserved, quiet and can be found reading or meditating.

Day out on the town haul.

You wouldn't believe what I found yesterday! We went shopping at some little boutiques yesterday and I found a black Tutu and A corset!!!!!!

It's actually really good quality with good steel boning. it was only 29.00.

I plan on wearing it to the Emilie Autumn concert in October. I normally don't like blue but this color looked so pretty with black.

I was thinking of removing the ribbons in front but I'm not sure how it will look. It's still going to take some getting used too, I keep forgetting I can't bend over!

What is it about Goth's and Tea?

I've been an avid tea drinker all my life. I have at least 2 cups a day, earl grey for breakfast and green tea for lunch usually.


But what is it about the Gothic subculture and tea. Not that you can't be part of the Gothic subculture if you do not like tea and you do not have to be part of the subculture to like it either.

perhaps tea is considered spooky,  but I firmly believe that it's the elegance that is often associated with drinking tea.I even have my favorite tea cup.

Besides being delicious, when i drink tea I am suddenly whisked away to the castle in Victorian England.

that's just my opinion on tea. now more pictures!
